Another successful & highly enjoyable three days of Cricket on Ice in St Moritz pass, with some great individual moments of brilliance on the frozen lake and in the unbroken sunshine, some of
which we were reminded of during John Hallam's speech at the tournament gala dinner and the champagne moment award.
Particpants & spectators alike return home with rubber ducks or bottles of champagne in their hand luggage with fond memories to share of the exploits on & off the lake, the on-field ones of which were all recorded and streamed live by the ECN.
Old Cholmeleians won the tournament for the third successive year, beating the hosts, St Moritz CC, in which had effectively been the final, on the final day. The Lyceum Alpinum picked up this year's wooden spoon, but were recognised for their spirit and gradual improvement as the tournament progressed, demonstrating lots of promise for the future. Some of the young school pupils have undoubtedly a bright future of cricket ahead of them.
Commiserations to St Moritz and the German Cricket Club. They both return empty handed as they disperse to various corners of the earth, but in the knowledge that they played according to the true Cricket On Ice spirit.
The following teams competed for the 2019 Cricket on Ice Trophy:
- St. Moritz CC (hosts) - friends & guests of St Moritz Cricket Club
- Old Cholmeleians Xl - old Boys from Highgate School in London, UK
- Lyceum Alpinum XI - students & tutors from Lyceum Alpinum in Zuoz

The catering service provided by Hotel Schweizerhof consisted of an excellent range of hot soups, sausages and a dish of the day, plus an assortment of beverages (champagne, tea, coffee, mulled wine, beer & soft drinks) all available for purchase. As usual, the catering tent was located in front of the cricket ground, where seating, including a limited number of deck chairs, were available to offer spectators a very relaxed time on the lake.
Those that couldn't make it to the lake could follow all the action online. The European Cricket Network (ECN) streamed all the action live on Facebook and the scorecards, table and full tournamnet statistics were provided online via Cricket Switzerland's online results partner, cricHQ.
And in addition to various photographers, TV Südostschweiz were present to make a report on local television.

The evening included a special appearance by our patron, Rolf Sachs, and we also had the pleasure of a guest from the British Embassy in Berne, all to the accompaniment to Peter Barth on the piano playing swing & blues jazz and whom kindly donated his fee to our chosen charity the Schweizer Krebsliga.
None of this would have been possible without our sponsors of the Cricket on Ice Trophy 2019.
